This time last year I had spent the day in Bruges, Belgium.
Bruges is located in the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. It is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. My experience in this city touched my heart and moved me. The architecture was magnificent, the canal system running thru the city was magical, the food was amazing and the chocolate was DIVINE. The most memorable part of the trip for me was when I stepped into Aquamarijn, a lovely little shop on Vlamingstraat. This shop was filled with jewelry, minerals and semi-precious stones, eastern handmade art, singing bowls, scarves and incense. My kind of place! I was greeted by the owner Paul Beelprez. A delightful older gentleman, he immediately took to me. He sat me down and gave me an hour long in depth history lesson on Bruges. Truly fascinating. It was a treat. Before I left the shop, he grabbed my hand and looked me in the eye and said “One day you will come back to Bruges. You will stay for a visit and then you will leave, only to come back again to stay for good”. I smiled and made my way back out into the beautiful cobblestone streets. A perfect way to end my day in an enchanted ancient city.
